Title
A friendly invitation to the Cahn-Hilliard equation
Abstract
The Cahn-Hilliard equation has been extensively utilized in classification problems. In particular, it introduces an order parameter that is governed by a diffusion-type equation instead of relying on level-sets and thus allows a description of interfacial regions to be resolved. Such allows, among other advantages, a diffusive interface between two classifications. In this talk we invite you to a brief overview of the equations at hand, recent advances in the numerical methods for discretization; and we will also illustrate a coupled set-up for fluid dynamical applications, namely the Cahn-Hilliard-Navier-Stokes equations.
